Whitney M. Young Jr.’s values for equal opportunity, housing, education, and economic well-being for African Americans, relate to majority of the same values Martin Luther King Jr. had.
Whitney understood power, he understood politics, and most of all he understood people. Martin was in the streets while Whitney was in the boardroom. One could not have been successful without the other. Whitney M. Young Jr. and Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic work on behalf of civil rights for all Americans was grounded in deep religious and moral beliefs. Less appreciated and acknowledged is the courage of their convictions.
